Traditional Mead from The Rookery is aged in an oak cask for a year. The Cask Reserve is indeed a special drink, being smooth and mellow like a mead, but with many of the flavours of a whisky. The oak gives over smoke and woody tannin with a hint of vanilla. This is absolutely divine and it evokes everything that is magical about Scotland.
The Cask Reserve takes a long time to make and this process inherently limits the quantity that can be made. Each bottle is sealed with gold beeswax and is given the batch number and individual bottle number, making it a unique find for collectors. That said, it is made to be drunk!
